Your Diet Definitely Impacts pH Balance

The body’s internal environment runs efficiently when it is has the proper pH balance of acid and alkaline. To get the acids and alkalines the body needs to stay balanced, a proper diet is required. Every single food and beverage you consume including medication, either consists of or can ultimately be broken down into an acid or an alkaline.

Lemons and rhubarbs are acids. You know that just by tasting them. Other foods create acids during the metabolization process. Proteins, fats, and carbohydrates break down into phosphoric and uric acids, acetyl acetic acids and fatty acids, and succinic and Pyruvic acids respectively.

How does your body fare when it comes to consuming acid and alkaline substances? If you don’t know, it’s time you find out. The body can function properly when it has more alkaline than acid. This scenario won’t adversely affect the body’s pH level. In fact, building up reserves of alkaline is important to counteract those instances when excess acids are consumed.

However the opposite is not true. Repeated excessive acid intake will put your body’s pH measurement into dangerous territory. This situation can lead to the development of a number of serious illnesses and even death. The body will immediately attempt to neutralize this excess by borrowing alkaline from wherever it can. The body will also begin to eliminate the excess via the skin, kidneys and respiratory system.

A food diary can help you determine how well you’re feeding your body. Once you know the main foods you eat regularly, you will be able to analyze your diet to determine whether you generally consume more acidifying foods or more alkaline foods.

Keeping a food diary is easy. Just write down everything you consume – food, beverages, and snacks, day and night – every day. Do this for several weeks. As you record each day’s intake, you likely will begin noticing patterns. Notice whether the foods that make up your standard diet are acid foods or alkaline. If your body does not properly metabolize acids, you need to be especially aware of the quantity of acidifying foods you are eating.

If you don’t have this problem, just determining whether you regularly consume more acid foods than acid and alkaline foods will be a big step towards living a healthier life.
